Are we all extra good at Christmas?

Christmas is coming again this year. As mentioned, among the classic sweets, it is difficult to give up the beloved panettone, at least on the Italian table! The Christmas period is one of those in which foundations and activities committed to solidarity propose Panettone and solidarity gifts, in collaboration with prominent brands, confectioners, artisan confectioners and celebrities, creating truly special pairings.

Christmas panettone and thoughts of solidarity

According to ISTAT data, more than 2 million Italians live in absolute poverty and as many as 6 million in food poverty. Unfortunately, among the categories at greatest risk of poverty are people suffering from disabilities. So for Christmas, making a purchase or a solidarity gift can become a choice that is good for us and above all for those who have less and for whom an extra gift makes all the difference. Here you find a selection of solidarity gifts, lots of food but also beverages:

The ‘Suspended Panettone’ is back in Milan

Until 20 December, once again this year it will be possible to join the Panettone sospeso (suspended Panettone) initiative in 14 Milanese pastry shops. An initiative promoted by the association of the same name and now in its fifth edition.

The suspended panettone cakes purchased this year will be donated to Casa dell’accoglienza Enzo Iannacci, i Custodi Sociali and Rete QuBì, which aim to combat child poverty in Milan.

Among the 2023 pastry shops that have joined the “Panettone Sospeso“, there are four new entries: Iginio Massari Alta pasticceria, Pasticceria DaMa, Sant Ambroeus e Taveggia.

Zerocalcare-Yamamoto: a solidarity pairing

What is Zerocalcare doing in a famous Japanese gastronomy in Milan? Simple, he does his drawings and illustrates a furoshiki, the cloth wrapping for the panettone produced by Gastronomia Yamamoto.

The ‘welcoming panettone’ was created in collaboration with Corrado Scaglione of the Enosteria Lipen, who added white chocolate, yuzu and lemon peel to the dough.

Part of the proceeds will go to support two projects: the Cooperativa Alice, which helps the reintegration of imprisoned women, and the Uiki onlus for the reconstruction of the Nuovo Cinema Amudé in Rojava.

So many names one goal: to help

There are many voluntary organisations and foundations that sell products at Christmas time to raise funds.

CasAmica Onlus is a voluntary organisation that takes in sick people and their families when they have to stay away from home.

To help support their work and the construction of a new solidarity home, you can buy Giovanni Cova & Co branded panettone and pandoro on their website, as well as a trio of biscottoni by the Rome-based artisan biscuit factory il Mondo di Laura.

The Fondazione Dottor Sorriso, an organisation active in hospitals with professional clown-therapists, has the mission to defeat the fear and sadness of hospitalised children and give them a smile. On the website natale.dottorsorriso.it you can buy creamy chocolates in the original Lattina del Sorriso, or flasks and mugs to raise funds and finance the foundation’s activities.

Fondazione G. e D. De Marchi ETS for the research and treatment of serious children’s diseases, promotes projects and actions to improve the lives of young patients in the De Marchi Clinic paediatrics ward at the Policlinico di Milano. This year, in addition to the classic panettone, they offer sweet Father Christmases and chocolate Nativity Cones to finance the purchase of new equipment and assisted therapeutic holidays. Everything can be purchased in the foundation’s shop.

Piccoli grandi cuori instead is a voluntary organisation that supports people suffering from congenital heart disease. In order to support shelter and psychological aid projects, for the youngest children in particular, you can purchase panettone, pandoro, Christmas hampers, cookery books and much more via the online form.
