Blue Note Milan kicks off 21st season

Tuesday 5 September marks the start of Blue Note Milano’s 21st concert season, inviting to its stage the most important musicians of the national and international jazz scene.

After the success with the public and critics in recent months, also thanks to the events dedicated to its 20th anniversary, the jazz club in via Borsieri raises the bar a little higher in terms of quality and quantity of its artistic offerings. In fact, the most important musicians of the national and international jazz scene will perform on the Blue Note stage. Great attention is also paid to the young promises with a series of emerging artists ready to perform.

Among the first artists to tread the stage in Via Borsieri will be the extraordinary presence of Woody Allen, expected on 6 and 7 September.

There will be no lack of well-known names – James Taylor Quartet, Le Sorelle Marinetti, Matt Bianco – and young promises, including the Brazilian duo Anavitória that will open the new concert season on Tuesday 5 September.

During special nights such as Celebrate New Orleans! (September 12) and Celebrate Cuba! (Sept. 25) it will be possible to enjoy a dedicated menu. For all other evenings, however, there will be the usual Food and Beverage menu to combine with great music for dinner or appetizers:

Speaking of new names on the music scene, it will be a duo of young Brazilian singers that will officially kick off the new season on Tuesday, September 5: Anavitória, or Ana Caetano and Vitória Falcão. They are one of the most sought-after contemporary folk groups in Brazil and also the protagonists of a new wave of young artists which have climbed the Brazilian charts, securing a Latin Grammy Award or getting several nominations. With 3 EPs and 4 studio albums in less than 10 years, the duo has depopulated on YouTube, where their channel boasts 3.67 million subscribers. (8:30 pm – €45/40)

Woody Allen and His New Orleans Jazz Band

Wednesday, September 6 and Thursday, September 7

Announced at the beginning of summer, his is perhaps the most anticipated concert of the coming months: the Blue Note in Milan will have the honor of hosting Oscar winner Woody Allen and His New Orleans Jazz Band on its stage. Their repertoire consists of more than 1,200 songs that include popular tunes, hymns, spirituals, marches, blues and rags from the early 20th century.

For twenty-five years, the group has played every Monday night at Manhattan’s renowned Carlyle Hotel. Allen even missed picking up an Academy Award in order not to cancel his Monday night concert!

Two special nights, in collaboration with The Beat Production, during which the set list will be strictly improvised and no one, not even the musicians will know what song Allen will ask to play next!

James Taylor Quartet: September 8 – 9

An unmistakable blend of soul, funk, jazz, spy movies and R’n’B.
Famous and appreciated worldwide, the historic band has defined the acid jazz genre and its leader, James Taylor, over the years has collected a wide variety of appearances on the records of the likes of U2, Pogues, Manic Street Preachers, up to the latest works of Tom Jones and Tina Turner.

Punctual as they are every year, the group’s musicians will replay their repertoire to their loyal Milan audience

Celebrate New Orleans! 12 September

Celebrate New Orleans 2023 Blue Note Milano

The first appointment for this new season of Celebrate New Orleans! the celebration in music dedicated to jazz and its mythical origins that continues to find new followers and to enthuse the audience in the hall. On stage will be the Breezy Jazz Band, which will retrace Sidney Bechet’s most famous tunes, in which the New Orleans of jazz’s beginnings will be recapitulated: from sessions with Louis Armstrong to blues and dixieland echoes.

Jason Miles: Wednesday 13 September

Accompanied by his Electric 4tet, James Miles. a composer, producer, arranger and jazz keyboardist, has a career alongside legendary names such as Miles Davis and Marcus Miller and with the elite of contemporary music: Whitney Houston, Michael Jackson, Aretha Franklin, Michael Brecker, David Sandborn, The Crusaders and George Bensonwith David Gilmore on guitar, Reggie Washington on bass and Patrick Dorcéan on drums to present the Kind Of New project inspired by Miles Davis’ 1970 Cellar Door Sessions: a journey into the future of jazz through improvisation and the fusion of electronic and acoustic sounds.

The new season will also feature Latin rhythms: on Friday 15 September there will be a new edition of Celebrate Cuba!

Celebrate Cuba Bule Note Milano

The latest format signed by the Milanese jazz club, designed to celebrate the homeland of Caribbean rhythms, with the typical notes of mambo, rumba, salsa, Afro-Latin jazz and cha-cha-cha.

On stage the Orquesta ConClave, a collective of Latin American musicians united by the desire to spread their culture through the different styles of the salsa genre.

For the occasion, some special dishes will be added to the Jazz Club menu, paying homage to the Cuban cuisine and its unmistakable mix of colours, scents and spices

The band The Bluemood has always paid homage to the ‘darkest’ and deepest blues, adding rock veins and quotations from various sources, by virtue of the different musical histories and influences of its members.

The band will be at the Blue Note on Wednesday 20 September to celebrate its tenth anniversary: for the occasion, the performance will be enhanced by the extraordinary presence of Kat Dyson, Prince’s former guitarist and for many years guitarist and vocalist in all the formations of Zucchero’s band. A true ‘priestess’ of the blues: originally from Virginia and now living in Los Angeles, she embodies and interprets the most authentic spirit of the genre and as such has been a decisive source of inspiration for Bluemood. Together they will tell the blues like no one else can.
