STREET Smash Burgers: the Portuguese arrives in Milan

Milan continues to be the Italian capital of the smash burger and the phenomenon is enriched by a new international protagonist: STREET – Smash Burgers, the minimalist brand born in Lisbon that in just over a year has conquered Portugal and now chooses the Lombard capital as the first stop of its Italian expansion.

From the idea in Lisbon to the conquest of Europe

STREET was born in 2024 in Lisbon thanks to the intuition of Carlos Antón Conde and Beatriz Santillana Martinez, two young Spanish entrepreneurs with professional paths far from the world of catering. After trips to the United States and Australia to discover the best burger joints, they decided to bring the burger back to its roots: simple, fast and essential, far from the industrial formulas of large chains. The success was immediate: in Portugal STREET already has ten stores (including two in Porto) and an expansion in Switzerland, with over 150 employees and an ever-growing community.

Debut during Milan Fashion Week

Three new STREET venues in Milan in one month

After the opening of the first store in Via Edmondo de Amicis 9, STREET inaugurated the second store in Corso Magenta 34 on 20 September. The third venue will arrive in the middle  of fashion week on September 26 in Corso Garibaldi 117, in the heart of Brera, with a special event.
In fact,  the opening night (from 6:30 pm to 9:30 pm) includes 500 smash burgers and 500 beers offered free of charge, a DJ set by the Italian producer VIEL and an exclusive collaboration with the jewelry brand Nove25, which for the occasion has created 100 “smashed” pendants hidden by surprise inside the packs.

The menu: the art of simplicity

STREET’s philosophy is clear: less is more. The menu offers only three smash burgers, also available in a vegetarian version, accompanied by three types of chips (classic, sweet or truffle).

  • Street Burger: double beef patty with American cheese, onion, gherkins, ketchup and mustard.
  • Classic Burger: with lettuce, tomato and the special Street sauce.
  • Bacon Burger: enriched with crispy bacon and secret sauce.

Prices  range from 11 to 14 euros (17-20 euros for combo menus), with the possibility of adding extra patty, cheese or bacon and choosing the gluten-free bun. The  100% beef is processed according to an exclusive recipe that guarantees crispy “crust” and juicy interior, while the sauces  are all home made.

Essential design and total quality

The STREET venues reflect the brand’s philosophy: minimalist and contemporary spaces, an open kitchen and an experience that focuses on product quality. “We are not a chain, we follow every detail personally and we want customers to come back not only for what they eat, but for how they feel when they come in and out,” explains Carlos Antón Conde.

An ambitious plan for Italy

With nine openings planned in twelve months in Milan, Rome and other strategic cities , STREET aims to become the reference point for smash burge in Italy. The choice of Milan as the first stop is not accidental:

“Italy has a unique gastronomic sensibility and a cultural proximity to Spain and Portugal that makes our arrival natural,” the founders say.

The smash burger: how to prepare it and why you like it

The smash burger was born from the idea of mashing the minced meat on a hot plate with a heavy spatula, so that the intense heat creates a thin and crispy crust thanks to the Maillard reaction, keeping the inside tender and juicy. This simple yet precise technique enhances the flavor of the meat and ensures an irresistible texture. The combination of a few quality ingredients, quick cooking and a delicious and satisfying result has made the smash burger one of the strongest gastronomic trends of the moment, perfect for those looking for gourmet street food .
