Thanksgiving is a centuries-old tradition, a celebration of Christian origin – today celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November – that originated in the United States around the first half of the 17th century. Legend has it that the inhabitants of the colonies that had come from England to the United States celebrated the success of the first great harvest in the new land with a table laid with dishes and goodies from the land. They were dishes rich in popular tradition, such as the famous stuffed turkey. For a few years now, some cities in Italy too, including Milan, the foodie par excellence on the trend and events side, have decided to honour the American tradition. The famous restaurant and burger shop Hamerica’s, present for several years now in Milan and now also in Rome and other Italian capitals, offers a menu dedicated to Thanksgiving.
For dinner on Thursday 23 November, the menu is turkey based with gravy (the condiment sauce made from the meat’s cooking juices) mashed potatoes, fried sweet potatoes and blueberry jam, a dessert and a drink of your choice.

Italianissima @The Loft is exceptionally transformed into Americanissima on the occasion of Thanksgiving. On Thursday 23 November, at 8.30 p.m., Bioesserì Porta Nuova hosts the third event with music, cuisine and sparkling wine by V8+, the Storytellers of Prosecco.
This time it will be dedicated to the feast of thanksgiving. In fact, there will be a dedicated menu with a selection of dishes revisited in an American key, accompanied precisely by glasses of sparkling V8+ .

Great classics of American cuisine, starting with pulled pork meatballs in barbecue sauce, followed by sweet potatoes in three consistencies accompanied by bacon, sour cream, grilled chestnuts and chives.
The main courses also include the iconic ‘Mac & Cheese‘ au gratin and the ever-present roast turkey, served with Brusselssprouts, baked potatoes with cheddar cheese, bacon and chives, grilled corn on the cob and gravy. For dessertblueberry crumble and crème fraîche and for the really yummy grilled marshmallows!
The Luxury Collection Hotel, Excelsior Gallia in Milan, celebrates Thanksgiving Day (23 November) with a tasting menu for lunch and dinner that is a mix of American tradition and Made in Italy flavours. In fact, for the occasion, Chefs Antonio and Vincenzo Lebano have designed a three-course meal. As an appetiser Tortelli di zucca e amaretto, typical of Mantuan cuisine; followed by the main course, Stuffed turkey with a carousel of side dishes. The menu closes with dessert, the classic Pumpkin cake with mascarpone and vanilla sauce.
